Our member attorneys, firms, and non-profit organizations have been defending the public against unfair practices of courts & government agencies (particularly the NYS DMV TVB) involved in motor vehicle issues and use of the roads for over 30 years.

The Association of Motor Vehicle Trial Attorneys, Inc. is the voice of the legal profession in New York State on issues involving vehicle and traffic law. Our mission is to shape the development of the law, educate on legal matters, and protect the public from unfair practices involving vehicle and traffic law enforcement and adjudication. We are a non-profit entity and dedicated to the public interest.

May 13, 2021 Staten Island news outlet, the Staten Island Advance, notifies it's residents, already the borough with the statistically lowest odds of prevailing at a traffic hearing, that the DMV is mulling over going permanent with virtual hearings, an experiment it illegally foisted on the public in reaction to the Covid pandemic. click here

April 28, 2021 - New York news outlet PIX11 covers latest experiment of NYS DMV to dole out justice for people who dare challenge their NYC moving traffic violations. DMV has moved from pandemic reactionary "speakerphone" hearings held over the last year with no legislative authority, to "TikTok"-like video justice . As the social distancing demands of the Covid Pandemic are slowly withdrawn, and as the civil and criminal court systems throughout the state express a desire to return to normal where trials are needed, the DMV and it's hearing-only system covering only NYC and nowhere else in the state, is moving in the opposite direction, with clearly no intent to restore the public's right to excersize the time honored Constitutional requirement an accused be allowed to "confront their accuser" live and in person.

September 2020 - The association announces the filing of a lawsuit over the adjudication agency covering NYC reopening to hearings conducted in violation of their own rules, due process & right to confront accuser. CLICK HERE

The 7 board members serve 3 year terms, elected by the full current membership of some 50 attorneys practicing trial defense before the 8 hearing offices of the NYS DMV Traffic Violations Bureau covering the 5 boroughs of NYC. Board members are unpaid volunteers dedicated to representing the interests of all the members by bringing concerns of relevance to our mission to the board and to discuss and execute effective actions to address those concerns.
